Alexander Technique

Home > Alexander Technique

Based on the discoveries of F. Matthias Alexander (1869-1955), the Alexander Technique is a method of teaching your muscles to release tension that has built up over a lifetime. Through a focused awareness of your body’s balance, posture, range of motion and coordination, your muscles are able to “unlearn” and release bad habits. The Alexander Technique teaches a person how to perform their daily activities in a way that eliminates unnecessary tension. This is typically accomplished through an instructor showing a student how to recognize and release certain restrictive habits of movement and posture.

The Alexander Technique is a widely accepted method for relieving back and other body pain, and restoring the natural patterns of posture and movement. Instructors in this modality can be found world-wide. Once taught, the Alexander Technique can be practiced individually as a part of daily routine.
