Bowen Therapy - Bowenwork

Home > Bowen Therapy - Bowenwork

Bowen Therapy and the Bowenwork technique is a system designed to relieve all kinds of pain experienced by the body. Bowen Therapy or Bowenwork uses no manipulation or force in treating the body. Rather, a Bowen Therapist uses thumbs and fingers to gently manipulate muscles and tissues. This gentle treatment and pauses in between manipulations are what makes Bowen Therapy unique and safe to practice on all levels and ages of patient. This therapy also treats the proprioreceptors in the joints and ligaments that sense and adjust the position of the body. Bowen Therapy also stimulates lymphatic circulation and drainage.

The Bowen Therapy technique was developed in the 1950’s by Australian-born healer Tom Bowen, who claimed his fingers could sense vibrations in the muscles, nerves and soft tissues of his patients.
