Connective Tissue Massage is a type of Structural Integration massage, similar to Rolfing. This type of massage uses fascial manipulation integrated with muscular massage, to bring about relief from pain and chronic tension and to provide deep relaxation and improvements to overall posture. Connective Tissue Massage is delivered with the therapist standing or leaning at a very specific angle and delivering a controlled amount of force to the recipient. The technique is called controlled leaning and is a major part of delivering Connective Tissue Massage properly. Another principle is the movement, which should be elongated and flowing.
Connective Tissue Massage therapy was developed by John Latz in 1992. The Institute for Structural Integration (ISI) was founded by John Latz and is the exclusive training organization for CTM therapy.
