Feldenkrais Method

Home > Feldenkrais Method

The Feldenkrais Method of somatic education focuses on the relationship between movement and thought. Feldenkrais practitioners believe that increased mental awareness and creativity accompany improvements in our physical activity. The Feldenkrais Method teaches awareness through movement and promotes mind-body self-education to improve overall health. Another component of the Feldenkrais Method is functional integration, where a practitioner uses his or her hands to guide the movements of the client. This modality is experiential and movement-based, rather than a manipulative form of body therapy.

The Feldenkrais Method was developed by Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, a Jewish physicist. Dr. Feldenkrais formulated a belief that more flexible minds, not just more flexible bodies, were the secret to good health.
