Geriatric Massage

Home > Geriatric Massage

Geriatric Massage therapists treat the specific needs and ailments of elderly patients. Studies have shown that even soothing touch alone can be a benefit and have a positive impact on the health and well-being of geriatric clients. Geriatric Massage can stimulate circulation, boost the immune system and help to treat emotional and psychological problems as well. The goal of Geriatric Massage is to help the patient relax so that muscles and joints that may be stiff from disuse can be made more flexible and supple.

Because older bones tend to be more fragile, Geriatric Massage therapists do not typically perform deep tissue or other penetrating types of massage. Long, slow and soothing strokes are a typical Geriatric Massage style, and the use of oils and lotions help to protect the more delicate skin of elderly clients.
