Hot Stone Therapy

Home > Hot Stone Therapy

Hot Stone Therapy is a type of relaxation massage therapy typically practiced in spas. Hot Stone Therapy treatments vary in their application, but all involve the use of smooth river stones that have been sterilized and heated to around 120 degrees. Most Hot Stone Therapy treatments involve placing the heated stones on the back of the client to create a soothing and muscle-relaxing experience. Typically, the therapist will perform a massage using some of the stones in-hand, adding to the warmth, and penetrating the muscles deeply with the smooth stones. Overall, this type of massage is both soothing and deeply therapeutic.

Hot Stone Therapy has roots in ancient Chinese and Japanese cultures, as well as Native American and Aboriginal Australian traditions. Also known as Hahana stone massage, this form of therapy has been used in medicinal, therapeutic and ritualistic practices.
