Integrative Manual Therapy is a protocol that uses a combination of diagnostic and treatment techniques to treat pain, disease, discomfort and disability in the body. Integrative Manual Therapy practitioners employ a comprehensive diagnostic procedure which typically begins with a client stating their goals for treatment. Once goals are identified, a review of medical history, assessment of areas of pain or disability and body mobility are all used to diagnose a client’s needs. The Integrative Manual Therapist will then perform a “mapping” of the body using their hands, with the client lying on a table, first face up and then face down. The mapping uses light touch or palpitating to feel the circadian rhythm of the body and importantly, the myofascial tissue.
Integrative Manual Therapy was developed by Dr. Sharon W. Giammatteo over 30 plus years of practicing and documenting her techniques for treatment. Hundreds of practitioners have been trained in IMT by Dr. Giammatteo, at her clinic in
