Kripalu Yoga

Home > Kripalu Yoga

Kripalu Yoga is a style of Hatha yoga that employs a compassionate approach with an emphasis on meditation, physical healing and spiritual transformation. Kripalu Yoga classes usually begin with breathing exercises and gentle stretches, followed by a series of poses and finally, relaxation and meditation. Kripalu Yoga is intended as a holistic practice and uses the life-force energy called Prana to heal, rejuvenate and allow students to discover their own spiritual path.

Kripalu Yoga was developed by yoga guru, Amrit Desai, who came to the United States from India in 1960. The name Kripalu came from a Kundalini yogi named Sri Kripalvananda, who taught Amrit in India. The Kripalu Institute in Massachusetts still operates and teaches classes on a regular basis.
