Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release therapy uses stretching and manipulation of the connective tissues or fascia (membranes that envelope our muscles) to provide more comfortable range of motion and relief from pain. Myofascial Release is used in many of the deep tissue massage techniques and modalities. Most Myofascial Release therapies begin with a soothing massage, designed to warm and loosen the muscles. A therapist will then work on areas of stress and tension to stretch the fascia and release the tightness holding the muscles.
Myofascial Release therapy can be an intense form of treatment. Some patients experience stiffness and soreness for a few days after the therapy, but after that, report much greater range of motion and freedom from muscle pain. Modalities that use a form of Myofascial Release include; Deep Tissue Integration, Deep Tissue Massage, Rolfing, Hellerwork, Myoskeletal Alignment and others.
