Myoskeletal Alignment Technique uses a form of structural integration and the principles of osteopathy to relieve chronic pain symptoms. Myoskeletal Alignment Technique is primarily focused on back and neck pain, and is often incorporated into other types of massage therapy. The basic tenet of Myoskeletal Alignment Technique is that the back and neck pain felt by most sufferers is caused by problems with the musculoskeletal system. By addressing the structural component and aligning the muscles and fascia correctly, the problems of poor posture and stiffness of muscles can be eliminated.
A Myoskeletal Alignment Technique session may consist of the practitioner working to lengthen and relax tight, strained muscles. A deep, releasing stretch of the fascia may also be used. In addition, weak muscles are encouraged to grow using focused stretching techniques and massage of antagonistic muscles.
