Swedish Massage involves kneading and stroking the muscles in the same direction as blood flows to the heart, using deeper muscles and bone as points of pressure. Henry Peter Ling developed the Swedish Massage technique in Sweden around the turn of the twentieth century. This type of muscle relief therapy is used to treat stiffness, numbness and pain, and to flush the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid and other metabolic waste products.
