Kinesiology, also known as human kinetics, is the science of human movement. Kinesiologists assess human movement, performance and function by applying the sciences of physiology, biomechanics, anatomy and motor skills assessment. Kinesiology deals with the rehabilitation, management and prevention of disorders that affect the movement and function of the body. Through teaching proper orientation and body motions during physical activity, Kinesiologists are able to help with human motor performance and prevent pain and injury. Kinesiology has applications in workplace ergonomics and occupational health and safety as well.
Applied Kinesiology as a practice, was developed by Dr. George Goodheart, a chiropractor, in 1964. Since his original discovery, the field has expanded to include evaluation of the vascular, nervous and lymphatic systems. In the 1970s and 80s, specialized forms of Kinesiology, such as Energy Kinesiology were developed.
